All Stone Fruits:
Apricots
Our apricots begin in late may and last into June. Varieties include the old fashioned Blenheim and hardy Patterson. If you are looking for apricots to enjoy, make jam, sauce, or can, you have found your source. Many of our varieties are classified as heritage fruits. Leaving them on the tree until perfectly ripe makes them super sweet. We pick each tree many times selecting the only the ripest fruit each time. Our apricots and all of our stone fruits are grown without chemical pesticides, fungicides, or fertilizers. We use cover crops and rotations of sheep and chickens to control vegetation and fertilize the orchards. Foliar feedings of minerals help to control other pests. Healthy trees make for healthy and delicious fruit. For drying, jams, and sauces we recommend the ugly, yet super sweet old fashioned Blenheim, this is true apricot flavor. For canning and transporting we recommend the Patterson, an excellent eating apricot that is much hardier than the Blenheim. Blenheim are at their best early in the season and Patterson’s are at their peak in mid June. For superior pies and tarts mix some of each; Patterson’s will give texture to the dish and the Blenheim will break down into a sauce. Available by the flat, half flat and pound.
Avocados
Our Duke Avocado was developed for our area and these large trees are alternate bearing, producing a crop of excellent, thin skinned, nutty avocados every other year. This avocado is bright green in color and the skin is so thin, that many enjoy it on the fruit. Available for the month of September, these avocados are truly a wonderful treat. Available per each or by the pound for large quantities. Shipping Available.
Bing Cherries
Our Cherries and all of our stone fruits are grown without chemical pesticides, funcides, or fertilizers. We use cover crops and rotations of sheep and chickens to control vegetation and fertilize the orchards. Foliar feedings of minerals help to control other pests. Healthy trees make for healthy and delicious fruit. Our cherries are available mid way through May and into June. Sold by the flat and pound. All fruit is tree ripened and freshly picked.
Nectarines
We have two varieties of red freestone nectarines each summer; the Fantasia and Flavorcrest. Beginning in early July, the nectarines last until the early part of August. Nectarines and all of our stone fruits are grown without chemical pesticides, fungicides, or fertilizers. We use cover crops and rotations of sheep and chickens to control vegetation and fertilize the orchards. Foliar feedings of minerals help to control other pests. Healthy trees make for healthy and delicious fruit. Leaving nectarines on the tree until perfectly ripe makes them super sweet. We pick each tree many times, selecting the only the ripest fruit each time. Both of these varieties are yellow in color with red flecking, excellent for munching and in salads or jams, nectarines are a great way to get the peachy flavor without the peach fuzz. Available by the flat, half flat, or pound.
Peaches
Our peaches begin about half way through June and last until mid August. Peaches and all of our stone fruits are grown without chemical pesticides, fungicides, or fertilizers. We use cover crops and rotations of sheep and chickens to control vegetation and fertilize the orchards. Foliar feedings of minerals help to control other pests. Healthy trees make for healthy and delicious fruit. Many of our varieties are classified as heritage fruits. Leaving them on the tree until perfectly ripe makes them super sweet. We pick each tree many times selecting the only the ripest fruit each time. All of our peaches are freestone, which means they release easily from the pit. In mid to late June you can expect to find the Red Haven Peach available. This is a soft, early peach with a very old fashioned flavor. The Red Haven will stick to the pit more than our other varieties, however after waiting some months for fresh peaches, the extra work is worth it. Next comes the Red Top Freestone and Regina Red Peach. Look for these peaches around the 4th of July. Both of these peaches are very sweet, somewhat firm and turn red when cooked. These are the best of our varieties for jams and jellies. They also make great pies and smoothies. This time of the season the peach varieties begin to slip easily from the pit, making working with them a pleasure. In mid July we have our Suncrest Freestone Peach. This is the jewel of our peach varieties, it‘s intense peach flavor is amazing and the sweetness is so special. All of our peach varieties have been selected for flavor and sweetness first but the Suncrest wins the race. This is a great freestone that travels best of all our peaches. As this peach ripens, it turns a lovely red in color, This is our best peach for freezing and canning as it holds up well to the process. When freezing, we recommend using both some really ripe and some firmer fruit. The firmer fruit holds up and provides texture and the riper fruit breaks down into a sauce. This is also our recommendation for pies, tarts, crisps, and cobblers. These beautiful red sun crests with their wonderful sweetness area a delight. Their hardiness will allow you to work with them as you have time. The first of August always brings the ripening of our Faye Elberta Freestone Peaches. If what you want is an old fashioned, soft, yellow peach, this is it. Many of our customers wait all year for “the peaches” , in their opinion this is the only true peach. Lasting until about the second week in August, there is plenty of time to enjoy this old fashioned peach flavor. Peaches are available by the flat, half flat, or pound.
